GOLDEN HEDGE BAMBOO Bambusa multiplex alphonse karr
Can grow 15-20 feet with 1½” diameter canes. Plant every 6′-8′. Very Hardy.
Like Green Hedge Bamboo, Golden Hedge also makes a spectacular barrier or centerpiece planting. The canes are yellow with vertical green stripes. Since it is slightly shorter than the green-caned hedge bamboo above, it may be preferable for a smaller yard or for planting under electric wires. With its striking coloring Golden Hedge is a very popular addition to the landscape. Golden Hedge and Green Hedge look very attractive when mixed together to form a living fence.

ASIAN LEMON TIMBER BAMBOO Bambusa eutuldoides viridi-vittata
Can grow to 25 feet with 1″ diameter canes. Plant every 6′-8′. Moderately Hardy.
If you are seeking a stunning specimen plant that has an upright form and eye-catching coloration, Asian Lemon would be an excellent pick. The bright yellow canes are accented by bold green stripes. Its relatively short height enables it to be planted under electric lines yet still be tall enough to block a two-story house. The contrast of Asian Lemon’s dark green leaves with the plant’s colorful canes makes this a valuable and highly desirable addition to the landscape.

Aptly named, Angel Mist has a powdery, mystical appearance. A prolific grower, Angel Mist’s extremely large leaves contrast beautifully with the bamboo’s pale green canes. The canes are coated with a dusting of white creating a ethereal, other-worldly look. Look closely and you’ll see thin stripes irregularly gracing the canes. Angel Mist works well as a specimen plant or in a poolside or meditation garden setting.

BLUE TIMBER BAMBOO Bambusa chungii

Although we call this “Blue” Timber Bamboo, some know it as White Bamboo. The name comes from the canes which are covered with a whitish-blue powder as they develop. With an upright growth pattern and thin-walled canes, this stunning bamboo contrasts beautifully with the dark green canes of Seabreeze, Oldhamii or the attention-getting bright yellow canes of Asian Lemon or Hawaiian Gold. Use it as a centerpiece plant or create an attractive hedge that will mature quickly into an eye-catching focal point.

A favorite here at Beautiful Bamboo. The canes have a distinctive blue-white blush at each culm section. Because Seabreeze produces more large new shoots each year than most other bamboos it is an excellent choice for hedgerows or to hide objectional structures. Seabreeze forms a graceful umbrella-shaped arch when mature and has an open growing pattern with few lower branches so you can admire the beautiful canes. Like Giant Timber and other large-caned bamboos, Seabreeze’s mid-sized canes also make wonderful “bamboo noises” when the wind is blowing.

A real beauty. Gorgeous bright yellow canes with distinctive green stripes will be a centerpiece in your landscape. Canes can reach four-inch diameter and height of 35′-50′ in about three years. Sensitive to cold but worth growing because of its extreme beauty. Canes may suffer frost damage at 27° to 30° but the roots will not be hurt and will send up new thicker and taller canes the next summer.

EMERALD TIMBER BAMBOO Bambusa textilis mutabilis/Kanapaha

A big brother to Graceful, Emerald is also called Royal Bamboo or Wong Chuk. An elegant and stately bamboo, its straight upright canes grow tall and large with long internodes and few lower branches. Emerald’s canes are uniquely colored a muted greenish-tan. Many bamboo experts believe Emerald is the same variety as the large textilis specimen at Kanapaha Gardens in Gainesville Florida. Many people who look at Emerald in our demonstration area say, “This is what bamboo is supposed to look like.”

A stately beauty. This tall, elegant giant bamboo has dark green canes that, at maturity, are almost too thick to put your hands around. A very popular upright grower, Giant Timber is a clumping variety with a fairly open growth pattern that enables you to truly enjoy its beautiful form. It works well as a centerpiece or to form a stunning hedge. It is especially appropriate for narrow spaces. In just a few years Giant Timber will form a gorgeous stand of towering bamboo. When swaying in the wind, the large, thick canes make serene “clacking” and “creaking” sounds.
